Zhanghua Meat Dumplings (彰化肉圆)
The very last stop in Zhanghua on our culinary hike for one of the 'Big 3s' of Zhanghua's culinary must(s) - the Meat Dumplings, and not just any meat dumplings, THE one from '阿彰肉圆'.
This shop was already famous, but made even more through the Taiwanese sleeper hit of 2011, "You Are The Apple Of My Eyes". and boom - people in the Chinese speaking world suddenly know of the shop beyond Taiwan's shores.
Essentially, it is fresh minced pork, mixed with an assortment of other ingredients and spices, encased inside a sweet potato flour skin. It's about the size of a human palm and it reminds me a lot of an oversized 'Crystal Dumpling' (水晶包) that I get back home in Singapore.
The dumpling is first steamed and then deep fried in a big pot of oil to get that golden deliciousness.
