Fengqihu Train Bento (奮起湖火車便當/奋起湖火车便当)

There are 2 very famous Train Bentos from Fengqihu.

Our guide has taken us to this version from the Fengqihu Hotel (奮起湖大飯店). (There is another one offered by '登山食堂', which is situated right next to the Train Station)

If you choose to consume it in-house, one gets the Bento all nicely packed in a round metal cannister. (You can purchase souvenir versions of the metal cannister to bring home) In it, the white rice is packed right to the bottom and layered above it, stir-fried cabbages, red preserved ginger, fermented bamboo shoots, half a braised chicken egg, a slice of tender pork chop and a succulent chicken drumstick.

Despite the rustic simplicity of it all, maybe we were really hungry (this was lunch after all) or maybe it was really good - my mate and myself wolved down the single servings very quickly. I was a tad rueful that I had not grabbed 2 but we wanted to leave space in the stomach to enjoy more goodies and so, I had to make do with half the Bento. It really left me wanting more.
