Assortment Of Sausages (香腸/香肠)

Halfway through our treks in the Alishan ranges - my mate and myself took refuge in the village for a breather and for lunch!

Sausages! Here, not only can one find the, by now common, Wild Boar sausages, we found Flying Fish Roe Sausages (飛魚卵香腸), Sakura Shrimp Wasabi Sausages (櫻花蝦香腸), as well as the astounding shocking black coloured Squid Ink sausages (墨魚香腸). Cooked and then freely spiced with a mix of salt and pepper. Seafood in the middle of the mountain ranges?? Only in the modern world!

We tried them all as appetisers: The Squid Ink sausage had the strongest seafood characters and also the toughest texture. The Sakura Shrimp & Wasabi sausage - in all honesty - I left no impressions. My favourite of the bunch? The Flying Fish Roe sausage. The extra pop-and-crackle effect of the bursting eggs made consuming this sausage a fun affair. I was like a kid, anticipating that next explosion. I was so tempted to go back for more....but I must leave space in my stomach for more things to come and so alas!
