Cold Spicy Pork Noodles (辣肉冷面)
I love minced pork noodles and it was not easy trying to find a similar version in Shanghai.
Finally! Following a recommendation in an expat magazine - Timeout Shanghai - I sniffed my way to the shop: 美心点心店, which is a chain in Shanghai in operation since the 1920s.
The plate of cold noodles cost only 12RMB and it's not a small plate. (The soup version is only available in winter)
Simple formula: Cold cooked noodles decorated with a generous dollop of spicy pork and then splashed with toasted sesame sauce.
To be fair, the pork pieces were a tad tough but the flavour was pretty spot on. The slightly salty meaty gravy gelled well with the richness of the toasted sesame sauce to flavour the noodles splendidly.
Now, I have a new haunt! Chuckle!
PS: I wanted to treat myself well today since I know I am going to spend some time in office catching up on work on a Sunday. And I did....for 6 hours. 'Best Employee Award' I crave......NOT.
