Mushroom Ice Cream (香菇冰淇淋)

Snacking at Sun Moon Lake (日月潭).

 

I have sampled ice cream in many various weird, non-traditional and unique flavours: Tom Yam, Garlic, Olive Oil, Tomato & Basil, Bacon, Bak Kwa (Chinese-style BBQ Pork), Nutmeg and now, I can add mushroom. To be exact, Shiitake mushroom.

 

Technically, the creaminess of mushrooms should lend itself well as an ice cream flavour and in this case, the creators of '百菇莊' (howgu.com.tw/index.php) had managed to tame the earthiness of the Shiitake and elevated the creaminess.

 

While I would not probably rush and go grab another mushroom ice cream any time soon, it was a pleasant surprise.
