Beijing Egg Burger [北京蛋饼]
A snack while meandering through the narrow streets of Haikou, Hainan Island.
Honestly, I hardly think this dish had anything to do with Beijing cuisine. But I was hungry, it smelled great and it was very economical!
The way to prepare it reminds me of Japanese pancakes. Dough is poured into the cooking mould, ingredients such as ham, spring onions and an egg was added and the pancake was completed by flipping one of the halves on top of another and then pressing down to cook it until the pancake was fully one piece.
Taste wise, you can't really go wrong with the ham and egg combo. The crust was slightly crispy while the interior was hot and soft and I remembered the shop squirting some sweet chilli sauce over the pancake, making it very moreish.
