Holy Basil {Ocimum tenuiflorum}

The instructor took great pains to explain the different type of Basil used in Laotian cooking as they impart different taste and profiles and are usually used in a mixture for a more complex offering.

 

This is Holy Basil - omnipotent in Vietnamese cuisine and important in Thai as well. Easily recognisable from the violet coloured infloresences and purplish stems.
