Coronation Chicken With Cheese Panini Sandwich
Lunch @ "Cafe Glencoe" in Glencoe.
"Panini – toasted panini with your selected filling, served with a fruity salad garnish, crisps and our own homemade dressing"
Always wanted to know how a "Coronation Chicken" taste like after hearing it mentioned on TV.
Off Wikipedia: Coronation chicken or Poulet Reine Elizabeth is a combination of cold cooked chicken meat, herbs and spices, and a creamy mayonnaise-based sauce. It was created for the banquet of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. It can be eaten as a salad or used to fill sandwiches.
So what does it taste like? Shanghainese folks would know it best: "Curry" in the form of turmeric powder.
Coronation chicken tasted like chicken (breast) pieces marinated with turmeric "curry" and then thrown into a creamy mayonnaise to be drowned yellow.
Filled into a panini with cheese and then toasted, the warm sandwich was much welcomed with its warm filling. The soft gooey cheese encased otherwise dry chicken breast pieces and made them a lot more palatable. I certainly enjoyed the crunch of the panini. I didn't really mind that the curry was one dimensional as the turmeric wasn't too overpowering or bitter. It was a good meal for a cold day after a long drive.
