Kiwiberries
One of the latest form of the Kiwifruit to hit the shelves - Kiwiberries are much smaller with smooth hairless edible skins, and shapes varying from round to elongated.
Based on information garnered, there are three main cultivars grown in New Zealand, where they originated - Takaka Green, K2D4 and Marju Red, with the above likely the K2D4 varietal.
These new varietals are not natural but developed through breeding programmes run by private growers and the NZ Institute for Plant and Food Research Ltd.
They tasted like kiwifruit and in fact, are a tad sweeter and had less of that astringent factor. Of course, the fun part being that everything is consumed in 1 bite (like a grape), skin, flesh, seeds and all.
