Khong Island-Style Sour Soup

Lunch @ "Lao Kitchen", a popular and more "catered-to-tourist-taste-bud's" Laotian food restaurant in Vientiane.

 

"A popular sour soup recipe from the Khone Phapheng region in Southern Laos. Made with pineapple, herbs, mushrooms, tomato, chilli, lemongrass, sour tamarind and pickled basil"

 

Opinion was divided on this soup. The fresh aroma reminded me so much of neighbouring Thailand's Tom Yam....except this had not heat and had a fruity twang due to the usage of pineapples, which I kinda enjoyed. The pieces of Tilapia fish, however, had a muddy taste that turned off my mate and his son as they found the taste unpalatable.
