Harischandra Black Coffee & Jaggary

Dinner @ "Upali's By Nawaloka" in Colombo.

 

The biggest disappointment of the evening is this travesty of a black coffee - it tasted musty, stale and offputting - I am not sure if the restaurant had served up stale coffee or had used stale coffee powder but regardless, this was inedible filth.

 

On the other hand, the Jaggary, which is a traditional non-centrifugal cane sugar and made using the treacle of the Kithul tree in Sri Lanka, was a sugary brown delight on its own.
