驴肉火烧 (Donkey Meat Pockets)

Dinner @ "掌柜的店", a chain specialising in Henan cuisine (河南豫菜).

 

Slices of stewed donkey meat placed within a Huǒshāo or Shaobing, a roasted, semi-flaky bread pocket, and eaten as a snack or as part of a meal. The meat is often served cold, often with green pepper or cilantro leaves.

 

The meat tenderness was decent and when consumed with the addition of sauteed spring onion whites and green peppers, the flavours were quite pleasant.
