真系菠萝包 (Hong Kong Style Buns With Pineapple-Custard Filling)

A return to "点点心" for a late lunch.

The traditional Hong Kong-style buns only had the sweet flaky crust (which resembled the skin of the pineapple and thus these buns are affectionately called "Polo Buns" as "Polo" refers to pineapple in Cantonese)

The restaurant introduced a new spin to an old classic - each bun is actually filled with a custard mixed with real sweetened pineapple puree (hence the name in Chinese: "Real Pineapple Buns"). Traditionalists may balked at this but I actually took a liking to this! The filling is sweet, tangy and creamy all at the same time. I personally love fillings and a "Polo Bun" with a true-to-name filling, what is not to dislike?
