Menu du Chasseur (The Hunter's Menu) : Tart Tatin With Three Fruits (Mango, Pineapple, Apple)
Dinner at L'Elephant Restaurant, one of the top restaurants in Luang Prabang (No.1 on Tripadvisor), famous for their French dishes.
"Served with Cream"
It was a blob. My table was at one corner and was a tad dark. When it was served, the tart tatin just looked like a indistinguishable brownish blob on the plate. But luckily, what it lacked in colour, it made up for taste with its sweet fruitiness and tangy succulence. I can actually taste each layer of fruit as they are baked in large slices, which added an element of satisfaction. I remembered biting into the mango and a "wow" ringed inside my head.
My only dissatisfaction was that I find the cream too watery.....like melted milkshake. I probably need more than a few spoonfuls to make any creamy impact. I think pairing the Tart Tatin with a good vanilla ice cream would have been a better choice.
