Lao Organic Wholegrain Black Rice From Xieng Khouang
Dinner @ "Doi Ka Noi", a fiercely authentic Laotian restaurant in Vientiane.
Hey, all sorts of ancient grains are in. (Have people ever wondered why humans stop eating them in the first place....rather than jump on the fad wagon?)
The restaurant is fiercely proud to showcase Laotian produce and black rice from the northern part of the country is featured on the menu. Incidentally, I like black/purple rice (more than red rice, brown rice and white rice) Mind you, this is NOT black glutinous rice....black rice have a distinctive sweet cereal-like aroma and taste (that is very similar to black glutinous rice) that I found pleasing as a boy and fad or not, I am glad that the popularity of black/purple rice is on the rise regardless of this current hype.
