One of the 4 famed traditional Shanghainese breakfast food along with soya bean milk, fried doughstick fritters (aka "Youtiao") and Shanghainese pancakes.
(大饼，油条，豆浆，粢饭/粢饭糕在上海被称为“四大金刚".)
I have noticed this shop but never did get a chance to try it until today.
Essentially, the rice balls are made with cooked warm purple glutinous rice [血糯] and stuffed with various combos of pork floss, fried doughstick fritters, different varieties of eggs (stewed chicken egg, fried chicken egg, salted duck egg yolk etc) and moistened with stewed meat sauce before serving.
Very tasty and also very filling. Simple does it.
