"Buddha Fruit" ("人参果")
Taking a cue from the so named fruit "人参果" in the Chinese fable "Journey To The West" (西游记), which states that eating one such fruit guarantees immortality (take that, you useless modern vampires!) - farmers in China have grown fruits such as pears and honeydews in molds to ensure that the much desired shape takes form (much like the Japanese and their square watermelons)
In this case, the fruit was a melon. It had a cucumber-like melon crunchy taste. Taste-wise it was not spectacular but I guess this must be what "immortality" tastes like (grin)
