提壶绿豆汤 (Green Bean Soup)

Lunch @ "七寻八找胡同菜", a restaurant hidden in a Hutong (alley), serving old world food to new world customers.

 

Green bean soup is usually consumed on hot summery days as the beverage is believed to be "cooling" and helps to alleviate "latent heat" trapped within the body.

 

Here, it was served cold but unsweetened. I prefer mine sweetened but it pleased my travelling mate aplenty.
