Croque-Monsieur With Fries
Lunch @ "Nova", a French restaurant.
Off Wikipedia: The Croque-Monsieur is a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. It originated in French cafés and bars as a quick snack and typically, Emmental or Gruyère cheese is used.
This dish was spectacularly umami. The slightly stretchy cheese was creamy but mildly savoury (I do not think it was Gruyère but rather Emmental) but it was the tender slivers of ham within that delivered the knock-out punch.
The fries were well done as well - finger licking good, well seasoned with a moreish mixed garlic and parsley seasoning.
