Shanghai Mooncake

To me, this is almost like the pastry version of the rice dumplings that the Chinese world enjoys during the Dragon Boat Festival.

 

And curiously, in Shanghai, the rice dumplings here do have a boiled kidney beans version, almost like a sweet dumpling.

 

The Shanghainese does enjoy a flair to turn festival goodies a tad upside-down.
