Curry Pineapple Prawns

Dinner @ "娘惹情", a restaurant selling Nonya cuisine in Shanghai, with a local friend.

Nonya is a style of cooking of the Peranakan folks in Southeast Asia. Peranakan is a culture fused from inter-racial marriages, usually between a Chinese father and a Malay mother. Their cuisine is a hybrid of Chinese-Malay influences with some Indian nuances.

The use of pineapple in curries is a signature touch of Peranakan style curries. They provided a fruity and tangy touch to curries, making them even more appetising. Seafood is prevalent in Southeast Asia as a protein and combining seafood and pineapple has been a long-withstanding and proven formula.

This dish did not disappoint. It was really close to the version found at home.
