Otak Otak
Dinner @ "娘惹情", a restaurant selling Nonya cuisine in Shanghai, with a local friend.
Otak Otak is a common street food in Malaysian and Singapore. It is basically spiced fish paste and then charcoal BBQed wrapped in banana leaves. The traditional way of preparing them had been replicated here quite successfully.
The Otak Otak were quite tender but I find a slight lacking in spices, rendering them a tad bland. Also, perhaps the fish used was different. They were missing a tad of that BBQed-fishiness that is a signature of this dish.
