蜜汁火方 (Chinese Ham With Honey Gravy)

Dinner @ "楼外楼", a famous Hangzhou restaurant with family.

Purportedly one of the famous dish of this restaurant as well as in Hangzhou, I always wanted to try but the review was mixed with my table.

Mum and sis found the preserved Chinese Ham too salty, even though, it was very flavourful, hammy, waxy and fermented, almost bacon like, without the smokiness. I like the honey gravy though, and the lovely soft-cooked lotus seeds, but the gravy was just not sweet enough to counter the over-saltiness of the ham pieces. This dish probably has to be consumed with rice, and not on its own.

In the end, much of the dish was left unconsumed.....such a waste.
