Tanzania Ruvuma AA Americano

Coffee @ Sumerian Cafe.

A return to the cafe for a different bean.

This time, it's the Tanzania Ruvuma.

The fragrance of the grounded beans had a smoky aroma, with just a hint of hickory undertone. The aroma reminded me of katsuobushi - as the grounds had a fishy note as well. The owner explained that the beans were roasted a little longer to help bring out the fruity body.

The first taste reminded me of katsuobushi again. There is a slightly confusing impression of dried smoky fish. However, with more sips, the taste becomes more fruitier and I am left with a dried apricot-like/ dried red date-like dried fruit aftertaste on the tongue when I finished the cup.

I must say I wasn't expecting the katsuobushi association in a cup of coffee!
