Steamed Taro Leaves Soup & Fried Taro Croquets
Having lunch @ "The Coconut Terrace" of the Palau Pacific Resort, before hitting the beach.
Part of the "Palauan Sampler".
I have tasted taro leaves cooked in coconut milk/cream on Samoa. Here in Palau, they made it into a soup. Perished the thought of something "greenish", or even something "raw".
The soup was actually quite savoury.....almost meaty. I can only surmised stock was used as base and the presence of any leaves came from a slight mustiness in the taste. Not at all offending.
The fried taro croquets on the other hand, were surprisingly starchy, bland and rather tasteless.
