Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Chelba Americano
Brunch @ "Sumerian Coffee" in Shanghai.
Came highly recommended in expat magazines as well as a Kiwi mate, who beat me to the visit. (Drat!)
I am always on the hunt for good coffee in Shanghai, considering coffee is only a budding culture here in China. The majority of the populace still prefer Chinese tea and coffee remains a novelty outside the big cities.
My Kiwi mate had highly recommended this bean. And it was good. Very balanced, and considering that I had it American style Black, dripped-filtered, the mouthfeel and depth is rich and robust, not watery and dulled out. Has a mild charred roasted-ashy initial taste that tapers off into a fermented, fruity and woody (some may called it Oaky) with undertones of cocoa.
Surprisingly pleasant; for 38RMB a cup, dark nectar to wake my soul this morning!
