烏魚子 (Fried Grey Mullet Roe)

Night out in Liouhe Night Market (六合夜市) in Gaoxiong.

These dried Grey Mullet Roes are seen as delicacies and some are highly prized.

Seen against the light, they illuminate translucent.

They are as hard as a plank and have a rich, fatty, creamy and of course, fishy aroma and taste.

Best consumed charcoal grilled, the heat brings out the robust and supple characters of these dried roes, and for folks, like myself, who love fish roes, they are great delicacies.

A side note: The long branch-like items next to the roes are dried fish intestines (魚腸).
