Green Apple Macaron
My mate and myself were hunting for a place to park our tired feet and for me to get my caffeine fix.
In the end, we ended up at Elate Cafe (www.elate.com.tw/elateNew/default2.asp) and the baker in him, wanted tea time snacks.
The menu called it "Greening Macaron" (Do I get a green thumb after eating it?) but the Chinese translation reveals it all - Green apple flavoured macaron.
It was a LARGE Macaron. I was gobsmacked. A large green blob resting in the middle of the plate, serenaded by fruits and fruit compotes.
I couldn't taste any green apple until I get a few bites in, although I am pretty sure my stomach is a rich hue of green by now. The macaron was baked perfectly. There was a crunch as the spoon went in to break it up and yet the pieces disintegrated in the mouth. The dish was sweet, made sweeter by the compotes and luckily, it was shared or I do not think I would ever finish it.
My only peeve about this cafe: The slow and ineffective serving. It took us 15 minutes to get a glass of water and 30 minutes to receive our orders (coffee and dessert!) Abhorrent! My mate and myself were quite prepared to walk out but our tired legs rebelled against the idea. Maybe we were not dressed to the Ts, as the cafe seems to portray a snooty air. Anyway, we didn't bother with the waitresses once we were done. We walked straight up to the cashier (who was friendly enough, surprisingly....I guess money CAN buy you smiles), paid our bill with no seconds delay and walked out.
My advice - stick to the same named pudding shop across the alley, if that is your purpose for being in this part of Anping.
