布丁 (Puddings : Milk With Black Sugar Caramel & Matcha with Azuki)

The version from "依蕾特布丁" (www.elate.com.tw/elateNew/default1.asp).

It was 3pm and there was already a long queue. Elate Cafe has 2 sections: The sit-in drink-a-coffee-eat-a-cake section and the takeaway-only pudding section, separated by a small alley.

My mate would not miss this for the world. We lined up in the queue, he doing most of the queuing this time, eventually took a number (yes, a number!) and waited in a separate line to collect our orders.

There were 4 standard flavours available: Milk, Mango, Cocoa and Black Sesame. During our visit, there was a seasonal special: Matcha.

We ended up with the most standard of standard as well as the special.

As pudding goes, they were excellent. Very rich, almost like a softer Creme Brulee/Crema Catalina. I can understand why there is a queue in this off part of town, away from most of the tourist highlights. The Milk Pudding was very milky but the black sugar caramel was even yummier. By comparison, the flavour of the Matcha Pudding with the Azuki Red Bean cream was a lot more subtle, as it was lighter and less overwhelmingly creamy.

I couldn't finish them. I left the duo to my mate to polish them off satisfyingly.
