Beondegi (Korean Steamed Silkworm Chrysalis)

A night out with my other non-Korean colleague on our own little culinary adventure.

This was the only Banchan we had to start the meal. My colleague was looking at it and I quickly recognised it for what they were.

Basically, these were steamed or boiled seasoned silkworm pupae and commonly enjoyed as a street food snack.

They had a savoury aroma which reminded me of dried shrimps really. Biting into one, there was an explosion of "something" as the interior went 'pop' in the mouth, although what followed was this meaty but slightly fishy taste, which quite honestly didn't tasted that bad......although I can't say I am raving to have a second helping any time soon.
