Western Salad

Part of the Icheon Rice Meal.

 

My colleagues quickly waved my lens away when I tried to take a photo of this side dish.

 

"No, no! This is not traditional!" they insisted, as if it is embarrassing to have a western salad being offered for a meal so traditional.

 

Well, I took one on the sly anyway. I think it is no secret that South Korea embraces a lot of western influences, even in their cuisines, and so rather than hiding it, I just wish they accepted the fact. It is not as though, as if hundred of years of culinary traditions had been eradicated by the presence of a salad.

 

Or that I am that gullible.
