土豆排骨汤 (Gamjatang) BEFORE

Dinner @ "多乐房" in "Little Korea" in Shanghai.

The "before" looks a lot more pleasant for food photography with all the ingredients still sturdy and vivid in colours. I am not a big fan of soups, and not certainly a big pot of smouldering soup! However, soups are an essential part of Korean cuisine and Gamjatang is the other famous dish from this shop, next to Dakgalbi.

The huge chunks of soft meaty pork ribs (they must have huge pigs in Korea) and surprisingly bland boiled potatoes not withstanding, I found the perilla leaves, perilla seeds powder and preserved vegetable used in the soup more intriguing with the latter reminding me of "Mei Cai" (梅菜), most prevalently used in Southern Chinese cuisines and something I had always adored.
