I'd already got bored and missed the inbound working so was all set for the outbound one later in the afternoon. With the light rapidly fading, I waited...and waited and waited.... Then just as I heard the warning bells on the level crossing down the line, I remembered I needed / wanted to switch to continuous shooting; this I did, with frozen hands inside woolly gloves. The train thundered past but my camera would not take a picture, despite my jabbing the shutter release button furiously. Then, just as the last wagons were going round the corner it took one. Stupid Boy (in the words of Captain Mainwaring)! I'd selected the self timer at 10 seconds rather than lo-speed continuous! A salutary lesson - get all your settings changed in good time and then check them!
