Barrow Pit
The spring of this year (2018) was wet in northwestern Wyoming and as a result there were numerous mudslides. On Apr 19, 2018, part of the Chief Joseph Highway slipped away. All summer there has been one way traffic in the area of the slide. This fall a construction project to stabilized the highway and rebuild it commenced. They are working around the clock. Rock and fill is being brought in from a nearby hillside to fill the slide and build up the slope. The photo shows this barrow pit where the fill is being dug. It is located close to the slide and is located in the Cambrian Park Shale (Equivalent to the Gros Ventre Formation elsewhere in the Bighorn basin).
