Wild Elk No. 4
One of nine shots I took on Sunday of Elk in the wild near Benezette, Pennsylvania. I woke at 4am at my home in Cheswick and drove 2hrs northeast to Benezette to arrive before sunrise. It was pitch black at the first Elk viewing area, thick clouds blocked the stars and moon. I could hear the bulls (male elk) bugling loudly while waiting for the sun to rise. Hearing the sound in the dark would have been terrifying if I didn't know in advance that it was elk.
Crop at 300mm. I ordered a 500mm but it hasn't come in yet.
This was my first attempt to photograph wild elk. Due to the short focal length of my lens, bad lighting from a cloudy day, and not really knowing where to go, the photos didn't come out as good as I had hoped. However, I think I did ok considering and I learned much about it for the next time I try. It was an awesome little day trip.
