Judkin's Tramway storage yard, circa 1908

Description: Wagonloads of grain wait to be unloaded in the Judkin's Tramway storage yard circa 1908. The photographer's shadow can be seen in the foreground. A woman holds the reins of a team of horses ready to leave the yard with an empty wagon. The Judkins Tramway was built in 1893 by J.S. Thomas, D. B. Messenger, E. B. Fletcher, and George Ruark to move grain from the bluffs high above the Snake River to warehouses down below. This tram operated with 146 buckets attached to two and one-half miles of cable, and dropped 2,000 feet to the river bank. The Judkins Tramway ended operation in 1929.
