New warning signs are activated
The new signs were uncovered and activated on Friday, Sept. 21. Now, when drivers on Mount Baker Highway are approaching the intersection with Highway 9, these signs will flash yellow lights to warn them if there is a car turning or waiting to turn at the intersection ahead. They are only activated when a vehicle pulls up to the intersection.
If you’re familiar with the intersection, then you know that where Highway 9 connects into Mount Baker Highway is on a sweeping curve and that the speed limit is 55 mph. It can be difficult, at times, to turn onto Mount Baker Highway in this location. There have been a number of collisions and injuries in recent years at the intersection, and we believe these signs will help give drivers a heads up.
