CSS&SB 803, Burnham, IL rs
Veteran's Day in 1980 finds late afternoon light illuminating a veteran of a different sort. One of the three massive South Shore's electric freight motors is cruising eastward along the southern fringes of Chicago. Looking like an EMD F unit electric beauty, the 803 is homeward bound after working in Chicago that day. Adding to the "veteran" scene are the first three freight cars in the consist, one of those early tank cars, followed by a Frisco boxcar and then a Milwaukee Road boxcar. The 803 is alive and well today, living at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union.
