Milwaukee Road H16-44 406-404-402, SD40-2 156

How did the 156 get tied onto this consist? It's late July, 1975 and it's also getting late for these classic FM H16-44's, sitting together at Bensenville in what looks like an EPA super-site. The 406, 404, and 402 represented a fleet of 37 of the big Fairbanks-Morse roadswitchers. I believe they were off the roster within the next two years. The 156, meanwhile, enjoyed a much better fate, being painted in the Milwaukee's Bi-Centennial scheme. A couple of days after this picture was taken, it would join other red, white, and blue jobs for in Bedord Park for a classic portrait by TRAINS magazine.
