D&M RS2 481, Alpena, MI rescan
Rescan time takes us back to Alpena, MI, a great little city sitting on the shores of Lake Huron. Today, Alpena is home to the Lake States Railway, but in 1979 it belonged to the legendary Detroit & Mackinac. Known for its fleet of well kept Alcos, the D&M was a do-not-miss railroad for me when I ventured Up North for my first visit. Here we find RS2 481 headed south through town with an empty quarry train, which back then was a dependable source of traffic and revenue. I understand that the rock business is still operating today. At least I hope so for the Lake States' sake and its employees.
