CSS&SB 803, Chicago, IL

Forty years ago, this was the standard power on the South Shore. The CSS&SB (no commas, please) had three of these powerful beauties. A couple more wound up in Brazil and the rest went on to be called Little Joes on the Milwaukee Road. Don't ever, I mean never, call them that on the South Shore. They were the 800's. I found out in no uncertain terms one time while working the dispatcher's desk on the B&OCT. A South Shore conductor called and gave me an interchange report from East Chicago. I innocently asked him about the "little joes." He sternly advised me of my mistake. Let's just say lesson learned. We caught the 803 here rounding the curve on 130th Street headed into the city back in November of 1980.
