The Soo and the Chief at St. Ignace

During my search for more slides to rescan, I came across one that I hadn't done yet. I remember going slightly crazy and burning through several rolls of film while the 4428 switched out the Chief Wawatam at St. Ignace back in September, 1979. It was something I had never seen before and the ballet being played out fascinated me. The GP38-2 moved back and forth, taking out just so many cars to make sure the Chief didn't list one way or the other, performing a neat balancing act. Then the crew repeated the process while loading the ancient ferry. I managed to catch this scene on two separate days. I was on vacation and having a trip that I will always remember. Watching the Chief doing its thing was the highlight of that journey.
