The tyranny of ubiquitous preferences

Cute article on pet friendly offices on WSJ (one of my fav companies, Central Desktop, is mentioned, which is how I found it). Normally I'd just press the 'Share This' button to share with friends on Facebook but it's now replaced by the instant personalization, Facebook follows you wherever you go 'Like' button. Yes, I like the article, but no, I don't want to just select it to say 'Like' - I want to share it with some comments, which is what social media is about, not just have it added to my advertising related demographic data of personal preferences on Facebook. Luckily I have the 'Share This' extension in Firefox, but still - that's an extra step, which could have been solved by having both the 'share this' as well as the like. It's about choice, but not necessarily in this new world, where it's about what you like and not what you have to say about it.
