Thailand, Wat Chaiwatthanaram, Ayutthaya
The gallery’s exterior wall has a base moulding about one meter high, and an upper portion divided by engaged pilasters into recessed bays and decorated with five vertical stepped mullions, which is a distinctive decorative feature of the architecture of King Prasat Thong’s reign, creating a kind of ‘false window’ motif. The mullions are made of brick with a stucco facing, and the bricks are laid horizontally to form the undulating, stepped pattern.
