Today we walked 4km from Pipeline Rd thru Elk/Beaver Lake Park to the highest point on the abandoned Victoria & Sidney Railway (V&S). This is where the most rock blasting occurred as the railway was pushed thru to Victoria from Sidney in 1873 on the western side of Elk Lake. En route, we checked out the diversion tanks on Colquitz Creek which used to divert water to the filterbeds. The purpose of these was to remove any unwanted fish and tadpoles from the water supply before it reached Victoria consumers.
