The Programme
Ronnie invited my son'n-law, Bentley, and me over to listen to some tracks he's put to together from various musical collaborations and bands he's been involved with over the years. This includes our former band, Earth Light, which we put together in the early 70s. Also in the mix, were multi-track recordings Ronnie produced my himself on various instruments and some jazz groups he recorded with playing drums, bass and guitar -- but not all at the same time.
Why, Ronnie even has tracks and photos with him and Peter Gannon, founder of PG Music in Victoria, BC, Canada. Founded in 1988 by program creator Dr. Peter Gannon, PG Music has grown to have an international standing. A finalist in the prestigious PC Magazine "Award for Technical Excellence" in 1990 for Band-in-a-Box, and a 1995 Editors Choice Award recipient from Electronic Musician, PG Music now boasts a product line of over 30 distinct products.
Earth Light Club Band played the CPO's Mess two consecutive NYEs and were hired to play four-nights per week at the Totem Lounge after playing their first gig there.
The CPO's Mess President -- who hired the band -- was a Chief Petty Officer 1st Class in the Musician Branch of the RCN. The Totem Lounge at the Army, Navy & Air Force Veteran's Association (AN&A), in the 1970s, was one of Victoria's top nightclubs; second only to The Old Forge where the Brothers Forbes played.
Earth Light held the record for bar-$ales at AN&A pub; in fact, the bands sales' records were held for both top-sales and second-place bar sales. It may be a little known fact that businesses hire bands on their ability for that establishment to make money.
Earth Light was always booked solid year 'round, except for two summer month which they took off to be with their families. It was often difficult for the bands' manager, Billy, to not laugh when potential clients phoned up and ask EL to play their wedding 'next month' -- the band was always booked at least six-month's ahead.
