Determination/Dedication

The Chiang Kai-Shek memorial hall is an elaborate building that is the centrepiece of liberty square. The hall is an octagonal building with glazed blue tiles designed to resemble the temple of heaven in Beijing. The Building houses a bronze statue of the president which is guarded by two statuesque guards. There is an elaborate ceremony of the changing of the guard at every hour on the hour.

When I took this photo it was the middle of the afternoon and still around 38 degrees outside, this guard was sweating insanely but still didn't budge an inch. When I returned later to witness the changing of the guards, his uniform was completely soaked through with sweat. I converted the picture into black and white as I thought it added greater impact to the piece.

This placed fifth in Theme #02 - Professions and Crafts in dotArt's Urban International Photography competition.
