Briana and I did an ad shoot for ACE 4 Volleyball in Prescott, AZ

The point of the ad is that the client' software protects the environment by allowing Volleyball coaches to go nearly paperless.

Challenges: Well, for one, I live in the stinkin' desert. Bri and I had to drive 2 hours to Mingus Mountain to find some nice stands of Pine.

I don't know if the client will like this shot, but I sure do. We did several different takes in our three hour shoot there. In some shots we had Briana a much smaller part of the image, but I also sneaked in for some more 'hero' type of shots. It is my nature to provide a ton of images for the AD (in this case the AD is a real smug guy who loves Corona's... and when you are shooting for yourself, you can become very, very picky.)

Another challenge is that our forests are not necessarily very green these days, so I had to find some colorful areas to try to add some interest.

In this shot we used three strobes plus the natural back light from the sun. There is a speedlight at 1/16 power on camera left, a speedlight at 1/8 power on slight camera right and high to meet her face. A third speedlight is to camera right, behind Briana to add a little light for separation. I worked with Briana's shadow falling across my lens.

It didn't take long for the lights to be set, but working on an angle was kinda weird.

Briana is such a natural. I explained the concept to her once and she just dominated the shoot. She understood the meaning of 'caretaker" and "protector" of the environment and her gestures and poses were amazing. I may publish some shots from the contact sheets. When you get this kind of partnership between model and photographer, it can be so amazingly fun.

Photoshop used to create more contrast and image separation.
