Don't be afraid - it's only a sculpture atop one of the newer parking structures in downtown Evanston, Illinois. However, the artwork does well represent the sense of insecurity many of us experience as we walk the perilous path of modern daily life, always at risk of falling from the delicate balance between work and home, health and illness, a measure of success versus the unyielding pavement of failure, self-validating satisfaction and the crush of utter worthlessness. I myself have been hanging from just two isolated and weakened fingertips for some time now. If I could just get back to solid ground...
