Picture 022 Gatton Park
Worth seeing LARGE
Gatton Park was open to the public under the National Garden Scheme last Sunday and yesterday. I thought it a pipedream that I would be fit to go but kept hoping. Sunday was a dreadful cold day of snow and sleet. On Tuesday it poured all day and it's pouring today. But yesterday it was a beautiful springlike day and somehow we managed to go. It was beautiful.
The sun shone thoughout and there was a wonderful feeling of space.
Gatton Park has a history going back to the Domesday book in 1086. The property was formerly the property of the Colman family, the producer of mustard. The grounds are now the property of the Royal Alexandra and Albert School. They were landscaped by Capability Brown.
